Two Homeless Deaths Raise Awareness about
Dangers of being Homeless in Las Vegas
Homeless charities in Las Vegas and the Homeless community are reeling the death of two people within one week. One of the deaths is a murder and the other death occured when a homeless man was in a pedestrian crosswalk. Both occurred in an area referred to as the corridor of hope. It’s an area where many of the homeless charities in Las Vegas are located and deliver services are located that help the homeless in Las Vegas.
The first death occurred at 6:30 a.m. March 12, when a man known on the streets as Nick was run over while crossing the street. He was in a crosswalk and police say they do not believe the driver was impaired. The Las Vegas Coroners office said they have still not identified the man on a phone call today with SpreadPeace.org.

Three days late police responded to reports of a bloody fistfight in the same area around 1 am. When they arrived they found Anthony Giovanni, 23, dead. The man arrested for his murder was nearby flailing his arms and yelling. Others that homeless people in that area said they thought he had some psychological challenges.
His mom, Kandi Hendricks, created a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for services. As of today, she has raised $1,310.
Homeless Charities in Las Vegas See More Need and Less Funding
Las Vegas is a tough place to be homeless. On any given night there are 6,000 people homeless in Clark County with only 2,000 finding relief for the night at a shelter. In Southern Nevada, the Clark County Coroner reported 192 people died in 2018 who were identified as homeless or transient, a 47 percent increase over the 131 deaths reported in 2017.
Federal and local givernments have cut back on funding leaving many nonprofits and charities struggling to meet the need.
